I spent the last two weekends at the Cape with Brent’s family, which was rudely interrupted by a work-week in between. We were never a big Cape family growing up, so now I am trying to make up for it. My lack of upper body strength was especially evident on my first ever fishing trip when I struggled to wrestle a 34-inch striped bass into the boat. Spoiler alert- I won! Brent caught a 40-incher, and the whole family feasted for dinner. The expedition left me with cuts, scrapes, and a nasty bruise on my leg. I never knew that fishing was such a contact sport! Other days were filled with swimming, kayaking, wiffle ball, and wrestling a pair of particularly energetic eight year olds. Still, I try extra hard to enjoy weekends like these, especially when it is so easy for the summer to become over-scheduled so quickly.

Next weekend we will be headed up to join Brent’s college roommate Nick and his fiancé Brittany for their nuptials, and then will pop over to Kennebunk for some fried scallops. I cannot wait!

How did you spend the Fourth?
