One party accent that I have been wanting to experiment with is a cake topper. I didn’t get to make one for the shower because we served sugar cookies from Concord Teacakes instead of a cake. If you are not familiar with Concord Teacakes, consider them for some sweet treats for their next party- if you order far enough ahead of time, they will make you cookies in the shape of wedding dresses, cakes, almost anything. We, unfortunately, did not order far ahead enough for that, but we did have some pretty beautiful pink, coral, and orange hearts.
Last weekend I decided about 48 hours ahead of time to throw my friend Maggie a surprise birthday party in Providence. A gang of our friends from school combined with my Rhody group and Maggie’s family came together to celebrate Maggie, who frankly, is the best person that any of us probably know. Megan created a delicious devil’s food cake with a thick layer of Nutella in the middle and peanut butter frosting. I worked on a little bunting banner, testing out my new alphabet stamps and stealing some burlap from Rosie’s wedding craft stash.
My bunting cake topper may not have been as adorable as some of the other ones that I have seen on Pinterest- but I will mostly blame the bad lighting in my kitchen for that. Be sure when you light the candles, that your cake topper does not go up in flames!
Here are some of my favorite ones I found online in my inspiration search.
