We are back!
It was a wonderful week in Wien. When we first came out of the train station at Burggasse, I started hopping up and down and squealing like a small baby animal. I was very excited to feel at home, and look around to see my favorite corner spots and food carts. As soon as Billa, the corner grocery opened on Monday morning, I was doorbusting to get my hands on some Haribo gummies, apricot jam filled bread, chili paprika chips, and 0.5 liter cans of Wieselburger. Brent was horrified by my grocery haul.
We made our way to see some old favorite sites, including Schloss Schonbrunn (affectionately known as Sean Brown’s house), and the Naschmarkt for Dr. Falafel, the best falafel known to man. The secret is in the mango curry sauce. If you could not already tell, yes, this trip was predominantly about food for me. We ate lots of gulaschesuppe and schnitzel, and I loved every second of it.
I was so overjoyed to walk around the city and see things again for the first time. I suppose I should not have been surprised that things have not changed too much- they have been there for 700 years after all.
More scenes from Burggasse Stadhalle RathausThis is just the start of trip photos! I will be sure to post more later on this week. We took a particularly exciting (and when I say exciting, I mean terrifying) drive through the alps to visit Salzburg, Hallstatt, and other favorite towns along the road.
