DIY- Sharpie Mugs

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 presetSometimes it feels like every third DIY post you see these days is about a sharpie mug. I decided last weekend I had to see what all of the fuss was about. My good friend Courtney, author of RoseBugBlog recently made me an adorable one for my birthday, so I wanted to try one of my own.

Word to the wise from the not-so-wise… do not slack off in prepping your mug. I neglected using Goo Gone to get off the last bits of residue from the sticker, and after I baked the mugs, it burned what was left stuck to the mug. Don’t let laziness win. Also dab some rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab and rub it over the mug before you draw to your heart’s content.

I have seen mugs where the person first used an exacto knife to cut the desired shape or pattern into vinyl, then stuck it to the mug and colored in the lines with a sharpie. In my case I decided to free hand these. Bake at 450 for 30 minutes, putting the mugs in the oven when it is still cool, and leaving them in for another 30 minutes after to cool down.

This is literally one of the easiest DIY crafts for someone who is nervous about becoming a walking Pinterest fail. Go slow, give this one a try.
