Occasionally, I feature foods from local Providence restaurants in the Eats section of Musings from PVD. Ellie’s Bakery on Washington Street in Downcity Providence is owned by Gracie’s Restaurant, which I feel a personal affinity for, despite my utter inability to afford a meal there. This Parisian inspired bakery serves most notably, delicious macaron cookies. An added benefit- order three, and they will serve them to you in a jelly sized mason jar that you can reuse and transform with directions in this former Musings from Providence post:

photo 2 (3)This summer, Providence was named the #2 ice cream city in the country by Travel and Leisure magazine. Having lived here for a year, I certainly ate my fair share of ice cream, but it was nothing too different than anything else I have had- and it certainly did not live up to Kimball Farms in Westford, MA, which I was very fortunate to have gotten fat growing up on. Then I discovered Ellie’s macaron ice cream sandwiches. I decided to try the cantaloupe flavored treat, although I would have loved to try three or four.

If you can’t get to Ellie’s for macarons, check out this cute macaron print from Pei Designs on Etsy. The artist has lots of charming graphic notecards and prints.
